Sunny winters on the South Costa Blanca
25 Nov 2019
South Costa Blanca is one of the most charming areas of the Spanish Levantine coast. This value is attributed not only to its fantastic climatic conditions, but to the quality of its services and the hospitable and festive nature of its inhabitants. During the summer months its beaches and mountain areas are visited by travelers from all over Spain and European countries such as the United Kingdom, Belgium and the Netherlands. However, did you know that it is also one of the great holiday destinations chosen for the winter months?
A mild climate for the cold season
South Costa Blanca is kissed by a radiant sun throughout the year. Despite some episodes of rain, this area is characterized by its sunny days and explosive sunsets with a lovely light. Thanks to the effect of the sun and the influence of the sea, temperatures are mild even in the winter months. For this reason, the Costa Blanca remains a place to enjoy outdoor activities at any time. In addition, it presents a favorable climate for people with pathologies sensitive to weather changes (for example, patients with osteoarthritis).
Outdoor activities for winter
Many activities to enjoy outdoors are chosen when the weather is good. Luckily, South Costa Blanca has splendid natural sites to visit on hiking trails for all sports levels. You can approach the beaches that during the summer welcome a large number of tourists; During the off-season months, you will notice that they are enjoyed in a more peaceful way that will help you connect with the sea breeze and the mild winter sun.
If you prefer to walk on the mountain, you will be surprised by some destinations such as the Peñón de Ifach in Calpe, the ascent to the Cruz de la Muela in Orihuela or the routes through the Sierra de Callosa de Segura. There are other hiking trails in plain like the walk around the pink waters of the Natural Park of Lagunas de la Mata and Torrevieja.
A good diet throughout the year
Thanks to the fact that in the winter months there is less crowding in the large tourist areas of the Costa Blanca, we find a great opportunity to explore its huge gastronomic culture that is well known throughout Spain. On the South Costa Blanca you can taste not only the best rice dishes, but also some classic recipes of the Vega Baja cuisine such as the cooking of balls, the almojábanas and the monas.
If you are a gourmet diner and you are encouraged to follow in the wake of the Michelin stars you will be glad to know that the province of Alicante has more than 10 restaurants awarded with this award. Some of them are that of Quique Dacosta in Dénia, Bon Amb in Jávea, El Xato in La Nucía or La Finca in Elche.
Where the party never ends
The end of summer on the South Costa Blanca is not synonymous with saying goodbye to the festivities. In fact, some of its biggest festivities (Torrevieja) take place during the first week of December. This celebration offers parades through the streets of the municipality for children and adults, rice competition, music concerts and even a night race in honor of "La Purísima".
In addition, Christmas and Carnival parties are also celebrated in all the municipalities that houses the Vega Baja del Segura Region and South Costa Blanca. The town councils of the towns as well as the communities of neighbors participate to surpass each year in the celebration of these celebrations and to continue giving life to the region.
