The open concept consists of a trend in architecture and interior design based on open spaces. This proposal is closely related to the industrial lofts of the 60s and 70s, where some spaces that were created for other uses became attractive homes that allowed to relate to the rooms of the house in a new way.

How to get an open concept

The key to create an open concept at home is very simple: down the walls! It is about generating the sensation of a unique space where all the rooms are connected and come together. This type of housing favors visual amplitude and gives rise to a quiet atmosphere as long as its elements are properly disposed.

Lighting has a fundamental role in decoration. With this concept it is easier to take advantage of the natural light sources of the house, since there are no walls that prevent it. In addition, the use of light colors on the walls and furniture is the best decision to take advantage of the sunshine. It is important to replace the hard artificial light with lamps that provide ambient light to the spaces. In this way, the feeling of continuity is complete.

Advantages and disadvantages of open concept

If you are looking to give breadth to your home, open concept is your style. This trend in interior design is designed for people who want the elements to flow and communicate throughout the house, giving rise to versatile spaces where everything seems possible. When we talk about open concept, we don't necessarily mean a house where everything is the same, but we will look for each element to be in tune.

The main drawbacks of this proposal are linked to the integration of the kitchen in the living room. It is likely that bad smells or annoying noises spread through the rooms, for which it will be necessary to install a good extractor hood. In addition, there are some solutions that do not give up the open concept: for example, installing a glass as a separator that retains visual amplitude.

Of course, the open concept does not give up that there are corners for privacy. These are achieved by applying dividers such as sliding doors or fluid fabrics for the rooms.

Where to find an open concept house

Many of the new construction homes in Costa Blanca South have joined the open concept.
